#015 Expression or Depression: The Importance of Following Your Soul's Calling with Erica Wexler

Do you have something deep down that you want to express? Something that you know in your heart and soul that you must share with the world? These expressions come in the form of art, music, or even business. Are you creating yours?

In this episode, we’re connecting with Erica Wexler and she’s going to explain why, for her, it’s “Expression or Depression.” Erica is a badass oil painter, a beautifully deep soul, and one of my favorite humans to share a laugh with. Her story and perseverance are completely inspiring to me. Erica tenaciously works towards building a life on her terms, she has overcome unimaginable adversity, and still finds a way to be a shining light in any space she holds. We’ll discuss her creative flow; she’ll talk about the ups, the downs, and the hows of being a “full-time” painter; and she’ll tell us why she feels it’s expression and authenticity OR death— because art is truly her therapy. Erica and I have known each other for a couple years now, and every time I see her, I only find more depth and more love within her. She says that stepping into her soul’s true path has brought her to her “soul-fam,” and I believe that because I know it’s what brought us together.

I’m excited to share just a bit of this soul-fam’s magic!

#013 Marching to the Beat of Your Own Drum with Jim Lew

You know those situations when you’re sharing your heart, an experience, or good conversation with someone and then they tell you that you “NEED to meet their friend!”? A special person in their life that they believe you MUST know either because of a resonance, an opportunity, or some special magic they believe you’ll make with that person? How often do you follow-up on these opportunities?

In this episode we're connecting with Jim Lew, the godfather of my good friend Asia; Asia and her mom have been saying that I needed to meet this man for over seven years. Jim and I don’t live near each other, and opportunities have not placed us in the same place at the same time thus far; so I decided to take the situation into my own hands by reaching out to Jim, and asking him if he would like to record a conversation with me.

Self employed since 1982, Jim has created an intriguing life for himself as an educator, trainer, and an unconventional thought leader. This self-proclaimed "A.D.D. Extrovert" has passionately taken on the roles of Social Worker, Psychotherapist, Organizational Development Consultant, Diversity Trainer, Author and Speaker- to name a few. He has consulted with Fortune 500 Companies, a former President of the United States, and Police Departments. Jim quite literally marches to the beat of his own drum, as you'll come to find more about, when he shares his cool connection with the Grateful Dead.

I really enjoyed this conversation. Not only did I discover that Jim and I share similar views on the importance of building community and human connection, but our talk was a great reminder to follow the intuition of a friend and go that extra step to make the connection, even when it’s not convenient or easy. It was great to get to know Jim and learn from his years of stories and life experience. There were so many tangents that we could have gone further on, and I know we just grazed the surface. It’s nice to know I have a new ally when I’m seeking console, and it’s even better to have gained a new friend. Thank you Asia, Annie, and Devin for this long-awaited + resonant connection!

#011 The Art of Healing Through Music and Vibration with Rara Avis

I’m pretty pumped about this episode because we are connecting with my favorite musician Alex King-Harris aka Rara Avis (latin for “Rare Bird”). Alex is truly a dedicated master of his craft with over 20 years in production and performance. He has been a long time collaborator with with Craig Kohland and Amani Friend on the Shaman’s Dream, Desert Dwellers, and Liquid Bloom. He has carved a space for himself where electronic underground, yoga, and ecstatic dance music collide.

Within the music industry, you will find all different types of people. Some people make music to share their story and some make music to sell records. In this episode, we're connecting with Rara Avis who makes his music to heal. Heal himself and heal others. You'll hear how a severe car accident sent Rara on a life-long journey to learn about vibration, musical theory, and the history of music around the world. All aiding him in the creation of his own unique sound that heals and aligns our mind, body, and spirit.

He is also CEO and Co-Founder of YogiTunes.com, a world wide streaming and download service that focuses on delivering top quality sound tracks for yoga and other wellness activities.

I came across Rara Avis and his music during a huge shift in my life. When I was in the start-up phases of the healthcare company that I helped create, his music was the one thing that I could turn on to slow me down and bring me back to center. His music was such a big catalyst to my commitment to growth and healing. I legitimately listen to Rara’s music everyday. While mediating, doing yoga, journaling, walking, running, cooking dinner, eating dinner, taking a bath, or turning down for the night. Anytime I want the reminder to connect and slow down. I truly loved catching up with Alex and hope you enjoy too. Make sure to check out his links below!

#010 The State of the I & U-nion Address: The Universe Speaks

The first ever Intentional & Unconventional State of the Union Address. The "State of the I & U-nion". We'll be doing something a little different to celebrate being in the double digits! It's important to celebrate life's little victories! In this episode, we will discuss some podcast reflections, we'll do a quick shout out to our friends across the pond, and share a little synchronicity poem and story from your host.

The Universe Speaks

A dragonfly lands on top of my knee

In the moment I’m having a deeper meaning of me

Scorpio, Libra, and the full moon align

If there was a doubt they told me it’s time

I ask about someone and bring up his name

A truck pulls right up and out the door he came

I know we’re supposed to meet, It weighs on me a ton

It all finally happens as the moon eclipses the sun

I write down that I’m in the right place, and wouldn’t you know

I look down and there’s a dragonfly on my toe

And when I met a mentor of mine, the story would be dope

If when I was washing my hands at his house, there was a dragonfly under his soap

This all really happened, I can’t make this shit up

The more I trust the universe, the more it speaks up

And the more intention and attention I put into the universes way

The more aware I am of what it has to say.

So look around, be open to the magic

The only difference between the people who do and don’t have it

Is the belief that it actually happens

So let go, listen, trust, it’s actually quite fun

And believing in miracles won’t hurt anyone.

There will still be ups and downs, oh you’ll go for a ride

But you’ll go from crawling to walking to taking in stride

If you pay attention, the universe won’t hide

Because the universe speaks and it will always provide.

#007 Impact and Influence: Applying the 5 Laws of Stratospheric Success with Bob Burg

Bob Burg is a sought-after speaker at company leadership and sales conferences sharing the platform with everyone from today’s business leaders and broadcast personalities to even a former U.S. President.

Bob is the author of a number of books on sales, marketing and influence, with total book sales of well over a million copies. His book, The Go-Giver, coauthored with John David Mann, itself has sold over 850,000 copies and it has been translated into 28 languages. His and John’s newest parable in the Go-Giver Series is The Go-Giver Influencer.

Bob is an advocate, supporter and defender of the Free Enterprise system, believing that the amount of money one makes is directly proportional to how many people they serve. He is also an unapologetic animal fanatic, and is a past member of the Board of Directors of Furry Friends Adoption, Clinic & Ranch in his town of Jupiter, Florida.

I brought Bob on the show because I love his view on success and how to create it. I came across Bob’s book “The Go-Giver” right when I came back from traveling the world for several months, after leaving my position at a successful company. When I left on my journey I was feeling down about the way business was being run in America, but Bob’s book was a great reminder for me that you can create abundance and a great business for yourself, if you do it with intention and provide value to others. I love that it is written as a parable, which makes it not only great for gaining knowledge, but also a fun and interesting read. I can easily say it’s one of my favorite books that I have read in the business section.

I reached out to Bob to tell him how much his book meant to me and how it actually was a catalyst for me to create this podcast. I told him that I wanted to give my audience an opportunity to learn from him as well, and he told me yes before I had even started the podcast. What an awesome human!

In this episode, we’ll discuss his 5 laws of stratospheric success, how to create influence, questions about mentorship, and so much more! I feel so grateful and honored to have him on the show. I hope you enjoy!

Show notes:

Courtney will teach us how to create our own energetic library to feel aligned in life and decision making, and we'll discuss her path in becoming an Intuitive Coach, Chi Gong Practitioner, and Psychic. She travels around the world, flowing like the beautiful little fairy that she is, and teaching others how to connect more deeply with their intuition. She does this online, as well as via in-person workshops, or one on one.

When I was living fully in practicality, words like intuition and psychic didn’t really have a place. Those words used to be turn-offs for me. My practical brain wasn’t open and always needed to be right. But in recent years, I have really been working on being open and trusting my intuition. Learning to make decisions that feel the most exciting for me, and releasing that need to always be right. Doing so, has brought so much beauty into my life. Amazing experiences, awesome people, and the feeling of alignment. Which is why I have realized my intuition is my greatest ally in decision making, and has brought so much love and joy to my life.

I brought Courtney on for this episode to dive into her story of how she became an intuitive coach, how she taps into her intuition, and how you can tap into yours. I couldn’t think of a better person to share different tips and techniques. Courtney is pure love and I’m happy to be able to share her love and knowledge with you!

#004 Yoga, Dance, and the Path to Purpose with Cristi Christensen

On today’s episode we’re connecting with Cristi Christensen. Cristi is a world traveling and world renowned yogi. You can find her on the cover of Yoga magazines all over the world, at retreats and teacher trainings in Bali, on billboards in China, on many online yoga platforms, or at your favorite art, yoga, and music festivals. Cristi is a true gem. She is more than a yoga teacher, Cristi helps people peel back their layers, tap into their intuition, and reconnect with who they truly are. I can say this because Cristi has been a huge part of my personal growth, and helping me push my own comfort zones. She does this by sharing her yoga practice, through movement, getting people on (and off) their yoga mats, and truly helping people let go by always saying exactly what we need to hear. One of her greatest gifts is getting others fired up and helping people say yes to life.

Cristi came to me in a time in my life where I was having a big shift. I had just left my job to travel the world and we met on my actual 30th birthday. My first experience with Cristi was at an event called Symbiosis in northern California, where I experienced one of her favorite and most unique practices called Deep Exhale, in which she co-creates a heart healing, body moving, soul transforming yoga/dance party with Marcus Wyatt. It was exactly what I needed at the time, and Cristi has been a big part of my life ever since. She is a beautiful human being inside and out, and I’m really excited to share just a little of her magic with you.

In this episode, we're going to discuss how Cristi tries to make yoga more accessible for everyone through dance, music, & movement, we'll talk about some common misconceptions of yoga, & we're going to find out about the path that brought her to practicing and teaching. Cristi's story is a great reminder that there are no set-backs in life, only set-ups! Find out how a big injury lead her to living more deeply in her purpose.

#003 Creativity, Vulnerability, and Awareness with Adam James

Can creating music, performing, playing, and being creative build your awareness of self and of life?In today’s episode we’re connecting with Adam James aka Gary Underpants to dive deeper into this question. Adam is a creativity coach, a singer, a performer, a musician, a producer of fun and amazing experiences, and an all-around beautiful human being. He sprinkles his magic of play, love, awareness, and radical expression into all corners of the globe and into everything that he does. He’s so much fun! And don’t let his stage name fool you- Gary Underpants is a deep, deep soul, and has been on a journey of inner-growth and helping others for years. He is the type of human that reminds me that life is supposed to be fun. We are supposed to play and perform and use this time on this earth to spread our joy and our light.

Back when I was starting a company I took the world too seriously. Even when I started my inner journey of growth- I was taking myself too seriously. Adam is a constant reminder for me to play, to tap into my creativity and to let go; you can be silly and deep at the same time. He reminds me that this is all an illusion and life is supposed to be FUN! In this episode we will dive into Gary’s story, his creative flow, and he will remind us that human creativity is one of our greatest super powers. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I do!

#002 Diving Into the Ego with Lynn Traub

Are you aware when your ego has taken over? What types of things does it say? Where do these thoughts even come from? In this episode we’re connecting with Lynn Traub, an amazing life teacher who will help answer these questions, and share how love and gratitude are our greatest allies.

It’s hard to really pin-point what to call Lynn because she’s really got it all. The best way I can put it into words is that she is a teacher of life, a guide; she dives deep with people so that they can dive deep within themselves. She does this with years of experience and through effective communication, intimacy, hypnotherapy, and working through the layers of the ego. Lynn does seminars around the world and helps others see their own light and connect to their essence. My favorite thing about Lynn is that she isn’t going around telling people that she has something that they don’t; something that they need - which is what I see a lot of people out there trying to say. No; Lynn tells people that everything that they need is already inside of them, and she is there to truly see them and aide themselves in uncovering their greatness.

Lynn and I crossed paths at such a pivotal moment in my life, and she has quickly become a teacher, a mentor, and a best friend of mine. I am so grateful, excited, and honored to have had the privilege to sit down with her, and I can only hope that I was able to ask the right questions to share just a little of her light. I hope you all enjoy!

#001 Welcome to Intentional and Unconventional

In this episode, I’m going to go over what this podcast is all about, give a little of my backstory and explain why this podcast was created.

I went back and fourth on how exactly to start this thing. I wanted to give you a lot more information on my backstory, but I also didn’t want to ramble on about myself. This podcast is not about me. It’s about sharing inspiring stories of people living unconventional live’s on their terms. It’s about connecting with people who live a life of intention and learning from them. It’s about connecting to all the love and the light in the world. It’s about learning and growing together. It’s a co-creation!
